Abstract :
The present paper describes a general computer aided assessment procedure for the purpose of evaluating statistically the wind potential and the associated energy of a selected site and then identifying systematically a suitable WECS (among a number of candidates) for the site of interest, based on applicable techno-economic and environmental criteria. The developed procedure uses Delphi software and offers a useful computational tool for a power engineer, while its main features are simplicity of use, flexibility, and large computational capabilities. A practical application of this software tool was used to thoroughly assess the wind/electrical energy potential of a selected site in the city of Xanthi (Eastern Macedonia -Thrace Region of Greece) the results of which amply demonstrated its suitability and distinct capabilities.
