Abstract
An analytic solution of the variable volume double-pool urea kinetics model and its application to the estimation of urea distribution volume and generation rate during dialysis, are presented. The estimation of these clinically relevant parameters starting from only three blood samples requires the assumption of constant values for the diffusion coefficient and the intra-extracellular volume ratio. Results obtained from computer simulations show that the effect of a ±50% variation of these parameters influences the estimates less than standard measurement errors
