Abstract :
We demonstrate a highly sensitive electro-optic (EO) sensing system without balanced detection, which is often employed for sensitivity enhancement. In the present method, sensitivity improvement is realized by modulation depth enhancement based on carrier reduction. This technique allows to increase EO signal intensity with constant received optical power. The sensitivity of 0.23 mV/Hz1/2 is achieved, which is as high as that of balanced detection
