Abstract
To investigate the correlation between Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) inspection of facial color and pulmonary function of Bronchial Asthma (BA), 162 patients with BA were divided into acute stage and catabasis. Data of pulmonary function, forced vital capacity (FVC), forced vital capacity in the first second (FEV1.0), maximum midexpiratory flow (MMEF) and peak expiratory flow (PEF) were collected by spirometer and correlated to patients´ facial color index, red, white, black, yellow and bluish collected by TCM device for inspection of facial color. In acute exacerbation, FEV1.0/FVC and MMEF% were correlated to children patients´ facial index of black and red correspondingly (P≤0.01). PEF% was correlated to adult patients´ facial index of black and yellow (P<;0.01). During catabasis, FEV1.0% was correlated to children patients´ facial index of yellow, black and white (P<;0.01). MMEF% was correlated to adult patients´ facial index of red and white (P<;0.01). It was concluded that for BA patients there was correlation between pulmonary function and TCM inspection of facial color which may work as a significant reference for evaluation of clinical efficiency of BA.
