Abstract
Boundary extract and reduction of mass data in reverse engineering was studied in this paper by adopting variable precision rough set theory, introducing error factors, building up decision tables of mass data and making attributes reduction. This process would benefit to the valuation of the scan boundary data and result in the boundary extract and reduction as well as the 3D reconstruction of mass data. As an experimental sample, an art dog was used to discuss this improved process, which fundamentally proved that the partial intelligence and 3D reconstruction precision could be successfully realized.
