Abstract
Increase in demand for microcontroller based system especially in automotive and industrial consumer market creates challenge for universities to produce engineers with practical embedded system development and programming skills. To meet this challenge, Universiti Malaysia Pahang has adopted student center learning (SCL) approach in teaching a course on embedded microcontroller technology. MINI-11 development board for M68HC11 microcontroller is designed specifically for this new approach in teaching. Equips with an easy-to-use integrated software development environment utility program, MINI-11 can be used to develop microcontroller-based application system of various complexity. A prototype of MINI-11 development board has been designed, developed, tested and verified for the purposes. The accompanying IDE software simplified firmware development process. Repeated testing also ensures the stability and reliability of the IDE software.
