Abstract :
The software used to simulate electric distribution systems often allows for user-written models, but not in a standard or portable format. The IEEE standard VHDL-AMS provides an option for defining models of devices connected to a distribution feeder. Example models of a three-phase source, three-phase unbalanced load, overhead line, induction motor, and two transformer types are used to solve a proposed IEEE feeder test case. A device-level power diode model is also shown. Although the current generation of VHDL-AMS simulators is not adapted to distribution feeder analysis, the VHDL-AMS modeling language could be profitably incorporated into existing power system analysis software
