Abstract :
This panel session will highlight the market impacts of integrating large-scale variable generation into wholesale electricity markets. The focus will be on examining the impacts of variable generation on market price volatility and the resulting impact on market behavior. Variable generation affects day-ahead and real-time energy markets, as well as markets for ancillary services. Market price volatility increases risk faced by market participants. Discussion will include experience with large-scale intermittent resource integration to date, as well as potential impacts in light of proposed market and system operations enhancements, and the emergence of new storage technologies, demand response and smart grid initiatives.
