Abstract
In electrical power engineering, the accuracy of the state estimation of phasor angles can be improved by the use of phasor measurement units (PMUs). Traditionally, voltage phase angles are determined by state estimation. The paper addresses two possible methods for examining the impact of PMU measurements in state estimation. The PMU measurements use Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to measure phase, and the measurement is very accurate. An index of accuracy is proposed and used to quantify the impact of PMUs on power system state estimation. An illustrative example is given
