Abstract :
The use of expert systems in providing a computer-aided modeling and analysis environment for the performance evaluation of communication networks is presented. A brief review of the communication-network performance-evaluation criteria and techniques is provided. Computer-aided modeling methods for communication networks are addressed. This is followed by a description of the use of expert systems for model representation, verification, and validation for both analytic and simulation solutions. The application of expert systems in the selection and implementation of the proper performance evaluation criteria and techniques in communication networks is also addressed. An example based on the use of the M.1 rule-based expert-system shell is also provided
