Abstract :
The control of machine direction moisture content is developed and implemented using a fuzzy supervisory technique. A process model is developed between the steam section pressure and the moisture content measurement, which includes nonlinear effects as a function of the paper machine operating point. A comparison is made between the fuzzy supervised internal model control technique and the conventional internal model control structure. The fuzzy supervisor is implemented on an actual paper machine to show the improved controller performance as the machine operating point is varied
