Abstract :
The Southern California Edison circuit of the future project is designed to test new hardware and automation technologies for circuit construction. These new technologies should increase reliability and safety of the circuit while keeping costs at or under present designs. The project will install equipment including composite poles, vacuum fault interrupters, distributed generation, a fault current limiter, and advanced capacitor switches. New automation methods are implemented along with fiber and broadband over power line communications. The circuit design is to be completed by June 2005 with construction complete by May 2006
