  • Abstract
The rolling in examination of long running trains at major stations are carried out by trained workers. In rolling in examination they mainly check the dynamic defects caused to the rolling stock. Since it is done manually it is prone to human errors as well as the accuracy depends on the speed of the rolling stock. So the development of an automated computer vision system using a real time image processing platform will create an efficient examination system as well as drastically increase the safety of rolling stock. The computer vision system should be able to detect the defects and to communicate with the control unit where the information to the technicians are given. The trains have identical wheel-axle system in every bogie´s irrespective of whether it is an ac compartment or sleeper compartment. The sketches of the wheel axle system is used by the workers for comparing it with the rolling stock. So the computer vision system should be trained to find out any change in the wheel axle system.
