Abstract
Public sector commitment to standards-based solutions to information technology requirements has played a major role in the development and acceptance of open systems interconnection (OSI). Similar support is likely in the broader area of open systems. An overview of some of the collaborative efforts in this area is given. The areas of collaboration discussed are OSI policies, the role of the user, harmonization of standards, testing and certification, government profiles, and the NATO OSI architecture. The activities of the International Public Sector Information Technology Group (IPSIT) are described
