Abstract
In this paper an ac-dc boost Power Factor Correction (PFC) converter with a passive snubber is introduced. The proposed passive snubber decreases the conduction losses but increases the range of soft switching achieved. The switch is given Zero Current Switching (ZCS) turn ON and Zero Voltage switching (ZVS) turn OFF. There are no additional stresses on all the semiconductor devices used. Due to the soft switching features, the PFC converter attains a high power factor of 0.98. The proposed converter with passive snubber is simulated in MATLAB and analyzed mode wise with detailed corresponding waveforms.
