Abstract :
Polarisation mode dispersion of in chirped fibre gratings (CFG) is investigated. Numerical simulation and system measurement at 10 Gbit/s show high tolerance to this effect, mainly due to its deterministic character. We present new results and clarifies that the system impact of the polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) of CFGs is completely different in character from that of the PMD in long fibres. In particular, it is demonstrated that the PMD in CFGs is a deterministic effect, as opposed to the statistical nature of PMD in optical fibres
