Abstract :
The impact of open systems interconnection (OSI) on telematic and other terminal equipment is discussed. The market is evaluated, with emphasis on the issue of data networks versus ISDN. Topics associated with PC communication, teletex terminals, and telefax in the ISDN are addressed. It is concluded that OSI is of high value in certain areas, but it should be admitted that large quantities of low-cost simple terminals which do not conflict with an orderly evolution of the OSI architecture are of value both for the user and the ISDN
