Abstract :
Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) modeling is extended to incorporate the modeling of wakefields in particle accelerators. Algorithmic comparisons are made to existing wakefield codes, such as MAFIA T3. The two examples selected (line charge between parallel plates and excitation of a two-dimensional cavity) exhibited the correct physics resulting from a beam bunch excitation. The extension to three dimensions is straightforward. It is noted that, considering the wide capabilities of this code, it is now possible to model accelerating cavities, beam monitoring devices, and kicker magnets
