Abstract :
OSINET is a network of vendors and users, located mainly in the US, which was established in 1984 to facilitate the testing of open systems interconnection (OSI) protocols. Details are presented about a new OSINET testing and registration service which provides users with free information about the degree to which current OSI products interoperate. It gives vendors an effective marketing tool. The vendors do not want to duplicate a costly and time consuming set of interoperability tests for each potential customer. They want to test once, record the results, and cite those results in response to procurement requests. The savings gained from reduced testing costs can be passed on to the user. A simplified test procedure can result in more timely OSI product delivery
