Abstract
Knowledge management (KM) has proven over the past two decades to be a foundational element of business success. Business cycles and other pressures cause enterprises sometimes to lose sight of Knowledge Management as a key strategic element. To assure enterprise success, everyone must take responsibility and ownership for enabling what they understand to be necessary. The main way that companies today are realizing the value of KM is through the application of Communities of Practice (CoPs). Communities of Practice provide an actionable tool that improves the identification and sharing of locally generated knowledge. In the next report on this experiment, the hope is that these activities will contribute in a major way to revitalizing strategic use of Knowledge Management at Motorola. In the meantime, the experiment is producing sound results for the ePIMS program.
