Abstract :
In times where life expectancy is continuously growing, innovative and economical technologies are needed to counteract the ever growing healthcare spendings. Considerable effort is put into medical monitoring on an outpatient basis. Such in-home health assessments combine the advantages of reliable physiological data, patient comfort and the benefits of lower healthcare expenses. In this paper, we present a novel system consisting of wireless, low-power modules, designed for unobtrusive acquisition of raw biomedical signals, complemented by a high-performance processing unit enabling sophisticated signal processing. As artefacts considerably degrade signal quality and hamper clinical diagnosis, artefact removal techniques are vital in biomedical signal acquisition. Recently proposed methods of Blind Source Separation such as ICA are well recognised approaches for artefact treatment in biomedical signal processing. In the scope of this study, we acquired multi-lead ECG signals which were processed online by the FastICA algorithm and graphically visualised in the user interface.
