Abstract :
The authors investigated the difference in spectral composition of first (S1) and second (S2) heart sounds before and after mechanical prosthesis implantation. The frequency spectrum was obtained using the forward-backward overdetermined Prony´s method. It is shown that the difference in spectra before and after mechanical valve implantation yields useful information regarding the frequency characteristics of the heart-chest system and the valve itself
