Abstract
Current and proposed wideband networks are envisioned to be implemented using highly reliable physical links, i.e. optical fiber. These networks are expected to be well-behaved and subject to low bit error rates. However, not all wideband networks will be implemented using such links. Some networks, such as military theater networks and commercial mobile networks, will utilize radio frequency links which are subject to a much higher bit error rate and service disruptions. The research described presents the results of a detailed simulation of a protocol that adapts ATM networks to operation in an environment characterized by unreliable links
