Abstract :
A method is presented for measuring the amplitude and group delay of the transfer function of a transmission line from single-channel measurements using broadband periodic time signals. A noise analysis is included to calculate the accuracy of the measurement results for a given signal/noise (S/N) ratio. It has been shown experimentally that it is possible to obtain useful results even if the S/N ratio is very low. The main requirement on the digitizer is a sufficiently long memory to allow the use of time averaging techniques
