Abstract :
In this paper, we study the characteristics of a wavelet-based multiresolution image compression technique. Daubechies length-M shift-orthogonal coefficient sequences, which generate continuous-time wavelet and scaling function, are used for an L-stage multiresolution image decomposition. Lossy reconstruction of the image is carried out using limited high magnitude samples, and peak signal-to-noise ratio is computed for several M and L values. A comparison between the multiresolution technique and the block discrete cosine transform technique is also presented
