Abstract :
The EMS project represents a major investment by Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) in updating and extending operational control facilities at grid system level. It is a multi-million pound project which has required significant staff involvement from different parts of the organisation. Power station staff have also been involved. It has formally been under contract since the Summer of 1993, was cutover in the Autumn of 1997 and is now approaching final acceptance. By way of overview of the presentation, the authors describe how he studied the need for this investment and how the project has been managed.
