Abstract
Various voltage and current sensing solutions including optical sensors, air-core coil based sensors, resistive-capacitive dividers, and hybrid solutions have gained increasing interest for use in the digital power grid. These sensors offer many attractive features including safe design, high accuracy and linearity, wide bandwidth, smaller size, and potentially low cost. Here, we will explore several applications of modern voltage and current sensor systems in the electric power industry, including their use for field calibration of conventional high-voltage instrument transformers.
