Abstract
The important issue of computer system backup is to minimize the backup time of a large file system. This problem is more serious in the backup development processing system with UNIX and large database systems. This paper examines the principle and the problem of the traditional backup system. It suggests the new method for a high-speed on-line backup system using the UNIX operating system. It also compares the performance between the traditional backup system and high speed backup system by analytical modeling. This performance model shows that the new backup system (high-speed on line backup) can reduce the backup line remarkably, compared with traditional backup systems
