Abstract :
In this study, a modelling approach based on the Rayleigh-Ritz assumed mode shape method was used to predict the behaviour of a thin plate controlled by patches of piezoelectric materials bonded to the surface of the plate. The model includes the added inertia and stiffness of the actuator and has been used to predict the frequency response of the plate. The controllability of the system can be used to obtain the best closed loop performance of the system with least number of actuators
