Abstract
The last decade has seen the population of generators in public electricity networks grow rapidly. The impact has varied between power networks with some now stretched to their limit. Now pressure for more CHP schemes will ultimately expose some of the industrial and urban distribution networks to issues similar to those encountered by weaker networks with generators using renewable energy. Most embedded generators are independent and not centrally dispatched. They impact as negative or positive load increments on the National Grid System. The aggregated capacity of generators will become even more significant, particularly at times of minimum national demand. The author argues that, wherever possible, this issue must be addressed by more appropriate and secure generator connections
