Abstract :
Capturing, transmission, and presentation of 3D audio-visual content is still an open field for standardization and deployment to end users. An extensible player platform is a key factor to investigate emerging techniques in 3D and to judge their feasibility in the mass-market. We built an extensible 3D player that supports different input sources and formats, coding standards, 3D video frame formats and a variety of 3D displays. Its highlights include H.264/MVC video decompression, depth perception adjustment, and support for auto-stereoscopic displays. The extensibility allows addition of further functionality to investigate technologies like H.264/SVC, MPEG-3DV or multi-layer H.264/MVC for 3D applications.
