Abstract
A novel method is presented to synthesize a reliable controller for multivariable systems possessing actuator redundancies. The designed controller will be able to guarantee the stability of the closed-loop system and to maintain an acceptable performance in the event of actuator failures. The method is based on robust pole region assignment techniques with the help of a pre-compensator to modify the dynamic characteristics of the redundant actuator control channels. The effectiveness of this method has been verified on an aircraft bank control system design. The results indicate that the proposed design method is indeed very effective in achieving the closed-loop system integrity in the presence of actuator failures
