Abstract :
System assurance in the context of modern railway applications covers a wide field of activities. All railway applications necessitate installation of electrical power sources from signalling and communication equipment to mass transit traction units which require high inputs of electrical energy. In the main, railway projects are multi-disciplined and involve the engagement of civil, electrical and mechanical contractors. Each discipline is constrained to provide system assured structures and equipment in accordance within the laws of the land and a contractually binding definition. Contractors generally implement system assurance in accordance with company accredited standards and with the requirements of a particular contract. Hence the company system assurance procedures operate in parallel with the requirements of a specific railway project. Cegelec Projects Ltd system assurance methodologies cover a wide range of applications, steel production, aircraft, shipping and mining and therefore there is little chance that specific contracts system assurance requirements are outside Cegelec´s sphere of experience
