Abstract :
A multiprocessor facility based upon Inmos transputers is described. It is programmable in a high-level dataflow language. The configuration of the machine is transparent to the programmer. The system consists of up to 16 mesh-connected transputers and an additional transputer connected to the host computer. Several features of the system, such as the structure handling scheme, function call mechanism, and routing process, are discussed. In addition, on the basis of both dataflow analysis (communication costs) and program syntax (program structure), partitioning and allocation procedures are implemented in the programming environment. Results of experiments demonstrate a linear speedup for a range of numerical applications.<>
