Abstract :
A 38 KJ two-stage railaun device has been designed and constructed for hypervelocity acceleration studies. This device included an electrothermal accelerator together with a railgun system. The former takes the advantage of burning the metallic foils to generate Plasma pulse for the acceleration. The latter consisted of a capacitor bank, a pulse transformer, and a rail-type acceleration section. Polyethylene Projectile of 2 gm has been accelerated up to 1.25 km/see typically.
