Abstract :
Technological advances in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have led to the proliferation and deployment of mobile and wireless devices which are still being managed by conventional Network Management Systems (NMS). Due to their operational characteristics which allow these mobile devices to transition into lower energy consuming states, effective management of these networks is becoming very challenging. We have simulated an energy-aware mobile agent (MA) NMS in OPNET which could operate efficiently in a power saving (PS) environment. We created an infrastructured wireless network with scenarios which represented non PS and PS and then compared the impact of PS on both centralised and our optimised MA paradigms. Our MA paradigm showed significant improvement in performance as opposed to the centralised and non optimised MA paradigms especially in response time. Our experiments confirmed that PS has an impact on the management platforms.
