Abstract :
It is of great significance to estimate the number of competing terminals in IEEE802.11 network precisely and timely. If the best contention window and the switching threshold of the basic mode and the RTS/CTS mode in DCF mechanism is set automatically according to the number of terminals, network throughput performance can be greatly optimized. At the meantime, the estimation of competing terminals in different cells is conductive to allocate resource rationally. A new modified Markov model is proposed in this paper to clarify the DCF mechanism in saturated condition and the Extended Kalman Filter is used to track the competing terminals. The results from simulation show that our modified Markov model for the network can estimate the number of competing terminals accurately.
