Abstract
This paper describes some strategies for highway congestion mitigation in desaturated condition. First of all, we make a traffic simulator to simulate behaviors of vehicles at on-ramp. The simulator can show how on-ramp congestion is caused in detail. Two different types of algorithms are discussed to mitigate congestion. They are (1) speed pattern control algorithm and (2) Stochastic prediction algorithm. By using our simulator, it is shown that these algorithms can mitigate congestion at highway on-ramps in desaturated condition.
