Abstract
We present the system model for Physics International´s modular inductive-store opening-switch DECADE concept. We discuss the system requirements and summarize the electrical issues addressed by the concept, in particular the aspects of the design which reduce the requirements on the opening switch. System performance is predicted by transient analysis simulations with two independent computer programs, and the results are compared. Results of a sensitivity analysis for selecting optimal system circuit parameters are also presented. The circuit model used in PSPICE is described in detail. Models for the transfer capacitor, opening switch, magnetically insulated transmission lines, and vacuum diode are described. The conclusions indicate the requirements on opening switch performance in order to meet DECADE radiation specifications.
