Abstract :
H.264/AVC video coding technique is the latest techniques for video compression developed by the JVT which is the result of collaboration between the ITU-T VCEG ISO / IEC MPEG. By doing so compressed video can be transmitted on a link with limited bandwidth. However, the video compression has the disadvantage of being prone to errors that can lead to a significant reduction in video quality. This research studied the effect of bit errors on the quality of H.264/AVC video coding standard. By introducing errors in the payload data and on a header of the transmitted frame in accordance with the desired BER, assessment on the video quality of a reconstructed video in term of PSNR has been evaluated. The results obtained show that the bit error can cause error propagation in a row video frames. If an error occurs in the header, it can cause the entire video frame can not be decoded. BER at 10-5 generally considered suitable for the transmission of data, but for video application of video with high temporal information, the level of bit error provides low quality video.
