Abstract
Applications of accelerator technology are emerging in a variety of commercial applications. One application is the generation of x-rays for advanced microlithography development and materials research. The Maxwell Laboratories, Inc. Model 1.2-400 Electron Storage Ring, which is being built for the LSU Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices, is a synchrotron which will be employed to demonstrate the commercial viability of x-rays for advanced microlithography and materials development. Electrons are introduced into the ring in the injection section by manipulating the stored beam with four pulsed kicker magnets and merging the stored beam with the beam from a linac with a pulsed thin septum magnet. The four modulators driving the kicker magnets, the modulator driving the thin septum magnet, the system controls, and diagnostics are described in detail in this paper.
