Abstract
The DC/DC buck converter is an interesting solution to implement power factor correction (PFC) in many applications, meeting the IEC 1000-3-2 standard with a low cost circuit. In this paper, an average small-signal model of buck converter realising power factor correction is presented. The model is valid for frequencies lower than the line frequency and allows the precise design of the output voltage control loop. The average small-signal model has been obtained for two classic control methods of PFC preregulators: The voltage follower control and the multiplier control with sinusoidal current reference. Simulations and experimental tests have validated the average small-signal proposed.
