            Abstract : 
A 14-in-diagonal a-Si TFT (thin-film transistor) color LCD (liquid crystal display) for a workstation has been developed with improved lateral field effect. In this TFT-LCD cell. the counter electrode pattern was changed from the whole surface type to the stripe type. As a result, the lateral field effect was restrained, and it was possible to decrease the black-mask overlap. The TFT-LCD is a high-resolution system for a workstation with 1148*3*800 dots (1148*800 pixels).<>
