Abstract :
Ever since the introduction of optical amplifiers into telecommunication networks, amplifier designs and performance capabilities have continued to evolve. Changes from one design generation to the next are generally brought about in response to three stimuli: 1. Technical advancement of the constituent optical components that make up an amplifier; 2. Vertical integration of functionality; 3. Networking requirements.
