Abstract :
Vehicle collision avoidance systems are a promising new technology in increasing traffic safety through the detection and evasion of obstacles on the road. While a variety of systems have been proposed to increase driver safety, the discussion of the social implications such systems has been secondary to the technical advancement of the systems themselves. This paper presents an exploratory discussion of the social implications of collision avoidance systems to use as a starting point for their design including social considerations.
