Abstract :
Low order multimode interference (MMI) structures have found wide application in optical communication systems and optical integrated circuits. However, as the port count increases, the performance of the MMI coupler tends to deteriorate. This paper looks at deriving new analytical and semianalytical descriptions that are particularly relevant to high order MMI devices.
