Abstract :
An adaptive power system stabilizer (APSS) based on the self-tuning algorithm has been developed jointly by the University of Calgary and ABB. Tests carried out on simulation and actual machines with the prototype self-tuning adaptive power system stabilizer have demonstrated very effectively the damping properties of the APSS. The basic algorithm, implementation and results of on-line tests with the prototype APSS on a hydro-generating unit and on a gas turbine driven generating unit are described in this paper
