Abstract :
Over the past decade, although people have attached much attention to the innovative activities in firms, executives often view the innovation process as a static, linear process, and often limit their strategic consideration on technology innovation in an isolated and separated way. The innovation process is actually a dynamic, nonlinear and systematic process, which makes traditional innovation management too simple and inappropriate for use in a long-term view. By reviewing these works and the investigation results of some leading firms in China, this paper advances a new paradigm for innovation management-portfolio innovation-which can be used to integrate technological, organizational and institutional factors from a strategic and systematic view
