Abstract
Motor-driven pumps or compressors are required to transport fluids or gas. The efficiency of these converter driven motors can be optimized. A solution involving an optimized converter-asynchronous motor system to operate pumps and compressors with a stiff shaft has been developed and successfully tested up to 13 MW and 3000 rpm. The motor has 4 poles and is supplied with up to 100 Hz. In addition to an extensive speed range in operation, 4-pole motors have advantages in terms of reliability, efficiency and costs, which are essential features for pipeline applications and thermal power plants.
