Success factors in the management of technological innovations: an efficient implementation concept of technology strategies (based on an empirical study)

Summary form only given. Competition reveals that some enterprises react faster in bringing technological innovations to the market than others. What are the reasons for these differences and how can they be explained? The author has discovered in an empirical study, that the efficiency, with which technology strategies get implemented in enterprises is one of the decisive reasons for this phenomena, The efficient implementation of technology strategies will give the managers of the enterprises the opportunity to bring their technological innovations earlier and more successfully to the market than competitors. This paper discusses an implementation model for technology strategies. The strategic positioning of the technological resources and the management of the core technological competencies of an enterprise, which are necessary for the success of its products, are the central question of the technology strategy. Part of this implementation model is an efficiency concept for the evaluation of the implementation success. In the end, the success of a strategy implementation process is determined by the result. This can be defined as degree of realization of the strategy and is further refined in the manuscript by efficiency criteria. The author differentiates between three categories of efficiency criteria: (1) the general view, (2) the process-oriented view, and (3) the result-oriented view.
